Graphic Designer

Bio

What do I do as a graphic designer at Boileau & Co.? What DON’T I do? So much. Oh so much. I don’t vacuum for instance. I think we have a service that does that for us. But if that vacuum service needed some design services, I could do that! I could make them a vacuum logo, a vacuum website design (not the coding part though, just the design), a vacuum brochure, and a vacuum social media graphic for vacuum social media (a wholesome and clean community). Ironically, these vacuum graphics would not suck. Because that is the Boileau way!

“We create because we are made in the image of our Creator. It’s our birthright and it’s infused in our purpose. So let’s have fun, and make something really great.”

Work History

I’ve been a graphic designer with Boileau & Co. since the beginning of 2022. This place has capitalized on my skills and has expanded my capabilities by adding “illustrator” and “web designer” to my graphics toolbelt. Thanks to the intentionality of leadership at Boileau & Co., I get to do what I love and grow while I do it. My creativity and adeptness with Photoshop is appreciated here and I’m enabled to serve our clients with design solutions that range from “clean and professional” to “cowboy riding a flying taco”.

Before coming to work at Boileau, I spent 5 years as the graphic designer at the Grand Rapids Symphony. No other job relies so much on the slim and sleek shape of a clarinet.

I got my bachelor’s degree in digital media design from Baker College in Muskegon. That program no longer exists there, and I’m just glad that what they taught me didn’t suddenly evaporate out of my brain the moment the program was shuttered. That would have been wild.

About Me

Something about me you won't find on my LinkedIn bio:

I try to tell LinkedIn all of my dark and boring secrets, but I have yet to post about how the comic strip Peanuts, the whimsy of Dr. Seuss, and the books of C.S. Lewis have been extremely formative in my life.

Actual things coworkers have said to me:

  • “Nice haircut”
  • “Want to go for a walk?”
  • *stares intently and silently at me to see if I want to play cribbage during lunch*

Secret skill:

I can play tunes by flicking my cheeks. It’s…really good.

Guilty pleasure song:

“Sk8er Boi” by Avril Lavigne.

Biggest pet peeve:

Dehumanizing things that should be very human.

Favorite nostalgic movie:

“The Lord of the Rings”, or if that is just too great to be nostalgic then, “The Princess Bride”.

Kryptonite:

Milk, eggs, and peanuts as they enter my body and the sound of styrofoam as it enters my ears.

Best place on earth:

At night, in my dad chair, with cake and tea within reach, discussing faith, art, and stories with my wife and friends.
