Jolt Energy: Capturing Lightning in a Bottle
A pioneering materials-research firm needed to transition from the lab to commercialization with a brand sharp enough to attract strategic partners and investors in the competitive energy storage market.
The Story
Since 2014, Jolt Energy has been developing groundbreaking organic battery technology—a new class of compounds that charge at lightning speed, perform in extreme cold, and offer a safer alternative to lithium-ion. But as they prepared to scale from research to commercialization and fundraising, they needed a brand that could translate complex chemistry into compelling opportunities for partners and investors.

How We Worked Together
We partnered with founders Tom Guarr and Jack Johnson to sharpen Jolt’s brand for their next phase. Their new logo design centered on the concept of “capturing lightning in a bottle,” playing on energy storage, research, and molecular structure all at once. Beyond the visual identity, we helped position Jolt’s technology story for diverse audiences, from technical researchers to potential manufacturing partners to investors. The new website balances scientific credibility with accessible explanations of how the technology is positioned to solve major economic problems.
Results
Jolt has successfully completed several rounds of funding including a $4MM series A and is currently raising for its next series while building new strategic partners for commercialization.
A wonderful coincidence
As we were designing the mark, one of Jolt’s highest-performing molecules was being discovered. It shimmers gold in its dry powder form.
Finding the right mark
Jolt’s logo represents the storage of immense electrical energy (a bolt) in molecular form. Nested in a modern font, it’s mark that can scale through commercialization.
