Information & Education Campaigns

Engage & Inform the Community

Whether running a millage or developing a community initiative, informed voters and stakeholders make better decisions. We work with you to make sure that the facts are easily accessible to community members through information & Education (I&E) campaigns. I&E campaigns are strategic efforts to inform, educate and engage audiences on specific issues or policies. From websites to stakeholder meetings, we can help you educate voters and community members on the outcomes and details of your project.

Fundamentals of I&E Campaigns

The best information and education campaigns help voters and stakeholders access the information they need to make an informed decision with ease. We design our campaigns to reach audiences wherever they are.

Holland Aquatic Center

After years of growth at Holland Community Aquatic Center (HCAC), simultaneous use by competitive programming and public access to their pools was becoming a capacity problem. They determined that a renovation of the existing facility and an expansion would allow them to accommodate their growing needs and turn the center into a community-focused wellness hub.

After getting a millage added to the ballot, HCAC needed to engage the public in an information and education campaign to ensure voters could make an informed decision. The team at HCAC reached out to Boileau & Co. to connect with community opinion leaders and decision makers, establishing the Aquatic Center’s value and setting a vision for their prospective renovation and expansion project.

Holland Recycling

An independent Solid Waste Characterization Analysis confirmed that the City of Holland’s curbside recycling program was no longer in alignment with industry best practices. The study found their method, which involved a bright yellow bag of recyclables placed in the same cart as trash (and then sorted at a combined facility later), had a failure rate of nearly 75%! That meant, despite the community’s above-average recycling efforts, most recyclables weren’t clean enough to actually be recycled into other products. After consulting experts, they decided to roll out dedicated EcoCarts, which are separate waste carts dedicated only for recyclables, along with a single-stream recycling program.

However, the City also faced a challenge in resident perception and recycling habits, which had become engrained over many years with the previous program. Many people had formed assumptions that recycling was overly expensive and offered a low ROI to the community and local business.

Waterfront Holland

When the James De Young Power Plant on the waterfront of Lake Macatawa retired in 2016, it triggered an opportunity to discuss what the future of the property should be. This led the City of Holland and Holland Board of Public Works to ask a larger question: what should the future of the entire waterfront of Holland look like?

They approached Boileau for strategic communications counsel on a community-wide public engagement campaign to get the community’s input on what the vision for Holland’s broader waterfront should be for decades to come.
